WP2 drives transformative change by promoting Critical Language Awareness (CLA) to address sustainability and societal challenges.

Objectives:
Analyse how language shapes thinking on issues like extremism, gender equality, and environmental transformation.
Foster critical discussions on sustainability through Congress1 and related events.
Develop educational materials to enhance participants’ ability to analyze language’s societal impact.
Provide an online CLA course to support educators in fostering critical, impactful engagement with language.

WP3: CLA, Inclusive and Engaged Society
Lead: Dr Bernard De Clerk

WP3 explores language’s role in social justice, focusing on reducing linguistic discrimination and promoting inclusion, emancipation, and participation for disadvantaged groups.

Objectives:
Document Language-Based Discrimination: Investigate and document accentism and gender-unfair language across diverse L1/L2 settings and languages.
Foster Analytical Thinking on Diversity and Inclusion: Facilitate discussions and workshops using European witness accounts to explore language ideologies and raise awareness of linguistic attitudes.
Promote Responsible Language Use: Develop educational resources (toolkits, knowledge clips, witness repositories) to assess and address biases, train in inclusive language, and reduce linguistic discrimination globally.

WP4: CLA and Ecolinguistics
Lead: Prof. Arran Stibbe

WP4 empowers learners and educators to critically analyze linguistic and visual techniques that shape equitable and sustainable societies.

Objectives:
Contribute to scholarly theory in CLA and ecolinguistics.
Conduct research and develop a ten-part online course exploring diverse texts, including creation stories, environmental documentaries, indigenous podcasts, and ethical leaders’ speeches.
Support educators in integrating course materials into their teaching.

WP5 Critical Language Awareness and Teacher Education
Lead: Dr Eva Reid and Dr Ivan Lacko

WP5 aims to transform teacher training by embedding Critical Language Awareness (CLA), empowering educators and learners to use language as a tool for inclusivity and sustainability. Trainee teachers will learn to recognise the social power of language, enhance their teaching practices, and inspire their students to advocate for a more inclusive and sustainable future.

Key objectives:
Help educators critically reflect on their own language use to promote inclusivity and sustainability.
Empower students to understand and use language thoughtfully to create positive societal change.
Collaborate with the consortium to refine and test educational resources for maximum impact.

WP5 fosters a learning environment where inclusivity and sustainability become lived values, not just concepts.

WP6: Communication and public engagement
Lead: Alexandra Matthys and Elisa Gambardella

WP6 focuses on effective communication, outreach, and policy engagement to maximize the project’s impact:
High-Quality Communication: Coordinated by SOLIDAR, regular updates and a communication toolkit ensure effective dissemination of project developments through websites and social media.
Engaging Staff in CLA Education: Peer learning activities and training events introduce staff from affiliated organizations to Critical Language Awareness as a tool for democratic citizenship.
Policy Engagement: Training sessions for policymakers and curriculum designers promote project-developed tools and resources, extending the project’s reach and sustainability.
