Call for Educators
Join the CLAMAC Learning Community for Business Educators
Are you a business or management educator who sees education as a force for societal transformation, but you struggle with students who…
- don’t think critically (yet)
- show low engagement
- struggle to structure arguments and connect concepts
- find it hard to “read between the lines”
- lean out rather than lean in
In today’s world, communication doesn’t just describe reality; it actively shapes it. Businesses, institutions, policies, and norms are built through language and multimodal communication (texts, images, platforms, presentations, branding). Without critical awareness, students may unknowingly reproduce ways of thinking and communicating that privilege some voices and exclude others.
Why Critical Language & Multimodal Awareness (CLMA)?
CLMA helps students develop sensitivity to the power of communication, how it can manipulate, persuade, motivate, legitimise, exclude, or imagine alternative futures. In business education, this means students can learn to question “common sense,” recognise hidden assumptions, and communicate more ethically and responsibly.
What is CLAMAC?
As part of the new NRO project “Higher education for the future”, CLAMAC (Critical Language and Multimodal Awareness) is building a learning community of business educators.
We aim to bring critical language awareness into the business classroom in ways that are practical, teachable, and meaningful for students.

What you can expect
In this learning community, we create a space to learn together about:
- the mindset and skillset CLMA can foster in students
- how to help students analyse language and multimodal messages in business contexts
- ways to make students’ learning more engaged, structured, and reflective
- how to translate CLMA ideas into classroom practice and materials
